Teppong Hongsrimuang is a printmaking artist, specializing in the discipline of woodcut relief printing. He received a master of fine arts degree in printmaking from Silpakorn University and currently is a Phd candidate at Chiang Mai University. His research interest lies in the local culture and tradition of his homeland “Isan,” the northeastern region of Thailand. Since his family is that of musical artists who play a kind of music called “Moh-lum” for generations, Hongsrimuang takes a deep interest in how this form of music embodies festivity and manifests itself in the local visual culture. Hongsrimuang carries his heritage from Roi-et province and mixes it into his printed works. In his oeuvre, notable objects show up repeatedly. These include natural objects such as natural rock formation, which reminds us of the ancient megalithic culture, and Isan local flowers; as well as cultural patterns such as old murals or so called “Hoop Tam,” celebrative processions etc. In his Phd research, he experiments more with colors, stamping and non-traditional material like acrylic sheets. However, his interest remains the same with a stronger focus on a parade and celebration of people in traditional Isan festivals. His impeccable skills in Woodcut has earned him many awards including The fourth prize in The 12th Kochi International Triennial Exhibition of Prints, Japan, 2023; A bronze medal in The 68th National Exhibition of Art, The National Gallery, Bangkok, Thailand, 2023; The second prize in The 11th Kochi International Triennial Exhibition of Prints, Japan, 2020.
