Born in 1988 in rural Mae Ai, Chiangmai, Thailand, Rungruang Sittirerk’s childhood involved frequent relocations and being left with various relatives while his parents worked in Bangkok. This upbringing fostered his interest in migration and diaspora. His art connects personal and social histories, addressing broader issues like modern capitalism and globalization. By examining urban migrants’ lives, similar to his parents’, Sittirerk explores themes of displacement. His work incorporates cultural elements relevant to the working class, such as songs, tales, and movies. He uses various mediums and techniques to transfer historical marks from found objects and places onto his artwork, like rubbing paper against surfaces or recording sounds generated by the vibrations when sound sensors rub against surfaces of objects. Sittirerk’s works were featured in many notable solo and group shows including the Bangkok Art Biennale (2020), Uncountable Time (2023) group exhibition at The Jim Thompson Art Center, Bangkok, In the dream I look out to see only the star (2021) solo exhibition at Richard Koh gallery, Bangkok etc.
