CV
Born in 1983 in Chumphon, Thailand, Jakkee Kongkaew is a printmaker who challenges the limits of woodcut relief printmaking technique. He is among the first to experiment with a large size of paper and printing press. Besides, his use of strokes is unique with a broad range of sizes varying from fine to coarse. This adds dimensions to the depicted images. Kongkaew likes to explore different subjects and how the essence of the objects and the surfaces can be portrayed through Woodcut. For example, he experimented with rock cliffs when he tried to embody the grandeur of the landscape and the hardness and weight of rocks through his marks. In other series, he tries to capture the dynamic and moving surface of water as well as the shiny quality of metalwares he found in his daily life. Since graduating with a master of fine art in printmaking from Silpakorn University, Jakkee continues to inspire the younger generation of printmakers in Thailand with his enthusiasm in finding new materials, methods and utensils to push the boundaries of the medium. His works have been included in many notable shows and earned him much recognition such as: The first prize in The 10th White Elephant Art Award in 2022, the silver medal in Printmaking in The 62th National Art Exhibition in 2015, the silver medal in Printmaking in The 59th National Art Exhibition in 2013, etc.
