Bangkok, Thailand — February 2025

333Gallery Bangkok (Warehouse 30) is proud to present “Somewhere Else in the World: Charoenkrung,” a solo exhibition by Thai artist Pasutt Kanrattanasutra. This thought-provoking showcase explores the complex, fragile relationships between communities, urban spaces, and nature, focusing on the dynamic Charoenkrung district. Running throughout February 2025, the exhibition invites audiences to reflect on the impacts of urban development and the balance (or lack thereof) between progress, sustainability, and preservation.

Through the lens of Charoenkrung’s rich historical, cultural, and symbolic landscape, Pasutt interrogates the transformations brought about by modern urbanization. Employing a critical perspective, his works examine how human progress affects both natural environments and local communities while raising poignant questions about sustainability and the broader implications of development.

Art as a Catalyst for Reflection
“Somewhere Else in the World: Charoenkrung” positions art as a medium for sparking dialogue about humanity’s role as caretakers of the planet. Pasutt’s deep engagement with contemporary socio-political and ecological issues shapes a body of work that challenges audiences to question the notion of “progress” and envision more balanced, sustainable futures.

Material and Meaning
A hallmark of the exhibition is Pasutt’s innovative use of diverse, value-rich materials. Collaborating with experts in fields such as woodworking and ceramics, he underscores the importance of resourceful, sustainable practices. His pieces reflect both the challenges of urban transformation and an invitation to engage with alternative perspectives on living in harmony with our surroundings.

A Call for Dialogue
Beyond its visual appeal, the exhibition is a call to action. By integrating history, culture, and urban influences, Pasutt provokes audiences to rethink conventional narratives of progress. His works explore the tension between past, present, and future, offering insights into how we might better balance development with ecological and societal well-being.

"My girls may look like little children, but they embody both you and me in the real world." I am a self-taught artist who began painting in early 2019, despite not attending art school. My work features vivid, colorful compositions that merge cuteness and anger in a unique pop-culture style. Each piece is created by meticulously mixing colors by hand, showcasing my distinctive painting techniques. Inspired by Japanese Shoujo Manga (少女漫画) and contemporary pop art, I blend delicate flat painting with dynamic, childlike strokes to develop my signature pop art style. My art goes beyond simple portraits—it tells stories of daily life through rebellious, young female figures. By using Appropriation Techniques, I reinterpret familiar imagery to comment on deeper themes like social anxiety and loneliness. While the bright, playful colors evoke happiness and charm, a closer look reveals hidden layers of dissatisfaction, sadness, and anger, reflecting the struggles people face in a society where true self-expression is often suppressed.
